Zap to the neck aims to stop brain Injury's deadly lung complication

NCT ID NCT04935697

Summary

This small pilot study tested whether a non-invasive device that stimulates a nerve in the neck could help prevent severe lung injury in people recently hospitalized for a mild-to-moderate traumatic brain injury. The device was used alongside standard hospital care and compared to standard care alone. The main goal was to see if the treatment could help patients avoid needing a breathing machine and improve their chances of survival over 30 days.
