New tool aims to prepare heart device patients for life after surgery

Summary

This study tests a new tool designed to help people with advanced heart failure understand what life might be like after getting a ventricular assist device (VAD). The tool was created from surveys of past VAD patients and covers physical, emotional, social, and other aspects of recovery. Researchers will ask 10 patients and their clinicians to review the tool for accuracy and usefulness. The goal is to improve patient education and set realistic expectations.
