New vacuum therapy could speed healing of bedsores
NCT ID NCT05598398
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a special vacuum-assisted wound system (NPWTi) helps heal chronic pressure sores better than standard wet-to-dry dressings. About 62 adults with stage 3 or 4 pressure sores on the tailbone or sitting bones will be randomly assigned to one of the two treatments. The goal is to see if the vacuum device leads to faster wound closure and shorter hospital stays.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Negative Pressure Wound Therapy system with instillation (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a faster, more effective way to close chronic pressure sores, reducing hospital stays and costs.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial (62 participants) comparing a device to standard care. Results may not apply to all patients, and the device may not work better or could cause complications like infection.
