Urine test may predict who benefits from prostate surgery

NCT ID NCT07416981

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looks at whether a protein called CTGF in urine can indicate bladder scarring and predict how well men recover after surgery for an enlarged prostate. Researchers will measure CTGF levels before surgery in 50 men and compare them to their outcomes. The goal is to find a non-invasive way to guide treatment decisions.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a simple urine test to predict which patients will benefit most from surgery for prostate obstruction.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study, not a treatment trial. The biomarker may not prove reliable enough for routine use.
