First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study looked at 304 patients with mild to moderate acute cholangitis, a serious bile duct infection. Researchers compared doing an ERCP (a scope procedure to drain the bile duct) within 24 hours of hospital arrival versus waiting 24 to 48 hours. The goal was to see if faster treatment reduced the risk of death within 30 days. The trial is complete and will help doctors decide the best timing for this emergency procedure.
