New approach: antibiotics delivered straight to the infection site during ERCP

NCT ID NCT07407491

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether giving an antibiotic (gentamicin) directly into the bile duct during a procedure called ERCP helps people with acute cholangitis recover faster. About 172 adults with mild to moderate infection will be randomly assigned to receive either the extra antibiotic or a placebo, on top of standard IV antibiotics. The main goal is to see if this approach improves infection markers and symptoms within 72 hours.
