Glowing dye could make endometriosis surgery safer for the ureters
NCT ID NCT05206279
First seen Jun 17, 2026 · Last updated Jun 19, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether injecting a fluorescent dye called indocyanine green (ICG) into the ureters helps surgeons see them more clearly during laparoscopic surgery for deep infiltrating endometriosis. 51 women with suspected or confirmed deep endometriosis took part. The goal was to see if this technique is feasible and could reduce the need for risky dissection of the ureters.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Indocyanine Green (ICG) dye
What this could lead to
If successful, this technique could help surgeons avoid damaging the ureters during endometriosis surgery, reducing the need for risky dissection.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed feasibility study with only 51 participants. The dye may not work for everyone, and it does not treat endometriosis itself.
