New Camera-Guided surgery may cut recurrence of brain blood clots
NCT ID NCT07144423
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether using a tiny camera (neuroendoscope) to guide the removal of a chronic subdural hematoma—a blood clot pressing on the brain—works better than the standard burr hole drainage. About 770 adults with symptoms like headache or weakness will be randomly assigned to one of the two surgeries. The main goal is to see if the camera-guided method lowers the chance of the clot coming back within three months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Neuroendoscopy-assisted hematoma drainage (a surgical procedure using a camera to guide removal of the blood clot)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could establish a better surgical method for chronic subdural hematoma, reducing the chance of the blood clot coming back and shortening recovery time.
- What could go wrong
- This is a large trial, but the procedure is more complex than standard burr hole drainage, which could increase surgical risks. The benefit over the simpler method may be small or not apply to all patients.
