Radiation dose cut may ease side effects for head and neck cancer patients

NCT ID NCT02442375

First seen Nov 18, 2025 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tested a new way to give radiation therapy to people with head and neck cancer. The goal was to see if lowering the radiation dose to the neck (while still treating the main tumor) could reduce long-term side effects like trouble eating and improve quality of life. About 300 patients took part. The approach used a special PET scan to guide the dose. The hope is that this method keeps cancer from coming back in the neck while causing fewer problems with swallowing and daily life.
