Cord cells take on hardening disease: new hope for scleroderma?

Summary

This study tests if cells from donated umbilical cords are safe and can help people with systemic sclerosis, a rare disease that causes skin and organ hardening. About 18 adults with severe disease will receive infusions of these cells. Researchers will check for side effects and measure changes in skin thickness over a year.
