Simple vein scan may prevent anesthesia danger in prostate surgery

NCT ID NCT07497295

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at whether an ultrasound scan of veins in the belly and leg can predict a dangerous drop in blood pressure after spinal anesthesia. Researchers will measure these veins in 110 men scheduled for prostate surgery, then track their blood pressure after anesthesia. The goal is to find a simple, non-invasive way to identify patients at risk and prevent complications.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could give doctors a simple, non-invasive way to predict and prevent dangerous drops in blood pressure during spinal anesthesia.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early observational study, not a treatment trial. The ultrasound method may not prove reliable enough for routine use.
