Ultrasound trick may keep stomachs flat during surgery

NCT ID NCT06688097

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated May 07, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This study looked at 103 adults having laparoscopic surgery to see if pressing on the esophagus with ultrasound guidance during mask breathing could stop air from going into the stomach. Half the patients got the compression, half did not. The goal was to see if this simple technique reduces stomach swelling, which can make surgery harder.
