Ear stimulation may boost blood flow in leg artery disease

NCT ID NCT03445754

First seen Jan 28, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This small study tested whether a gentle electrical stimulation on the ear (called transcutaneous vagal stimulation) could improve blood vessel function in 11 people with peripheral artery disease (PAD). The goal was to see if this non-invasive method could help blood vessels relax and become less stiff. The study compared the real stimulation to a fake (sham) treatment, with each person serving as their own control.
