New memory test for ECT patients being adapted for turkish speakers

NCT ID NCT07527234

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study aims to translate and test a cognitive assessment tool called the ECCA (Electroconvulsive Therapy Cognitive Assessment) into Turkish. The ECCA is designed to measure memory, attention, and other thinking skills that can be affected by electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), a treatment for severe depression and other mental health conditions. Researchers will enroll 90 patients aged 18-65 who are scheduled for ECT, and compare the Turkish ECCA with other standard cognitive tests to see if it is a reliable and valid tool.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a more accurate way to monitor memory and thinking problems in people undergoing ECT, helping doctors make better treatment decisions.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study focused on translating and testing a questionnaire, not on treating a disease. The tool may not prove more useful than existing tests.
