Manikin study tests if a new airway device helps novices intubate blindly
NCT ID NCT07681453
First seen Jul 02, 2026 · Last updated Jul 02, 2026
Summary
This study compares two ways to place a breathing tube in a manikin: using a new device called the Tulip oropharyngeal airway (which guides the tube in without seeing the vocal cords) versus the standard method using a laryngoscope. The participants are anesthesia technician students with no prior airway experience. The goal is to see which method leads to a higher success rate on the first try, helping determine which technique is easier for beginners to learn.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Tulip oropharyngeal airway device
What this could lead to
If the Tulip airway proves easier for beginners, it could become a training tool to help novice healthcare workers learn intubation skills more quickly.
What could go wrong
This is a small manikin study, not a real-patient trial. Results may not translate to actual clinical settings, and the device may not perform as well in real emergencies.
