New study tests which surgery best eases pain from massive shoulder tears

NCT ID NCT06735170

First seen Jan 10, 2026 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study compares two surgical procedures for people with large, irreparable rotator cuff tears that cause pain. One procedure smooths the bone where the tear is, and the other places a small balloon under the shoulder to reduce friction. Researchers will use special X-rays to see how the shoulder moves and ask patients about their pain and function. The goal is to find which approach better reduces bone-on-bone contact and improves quality of life.
