First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study compares two common treatments for trigger finger: shock wave therapy and a finger splint. The goal is to find out if shock wave therapy offers any advantage over the simpler splint.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) and trigger finger splint

What this could lead to

If this works, it could show that shock wave therapy is a good non-surgical option for easing pain and improving hand function in early trigger finger.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study with only 54 people. The results may not apply to everyone, and shock wave therapy might not be better than a simple splint.
