Summary
This study tests whether treating severe gum disease can reduce inflammation in the arteries of people who have recently had a heart attack. 210 participants will be randomly assigned to receive either intensive periodontal treatment or standard dental care. The main goal is to see if the treatment lowers inflammation in the carotid arteries, measured by PET scans at the start and after 12 months.
