New study tests safer wrist access for heart patients with blocked arteries
NCT ID NCT07380399
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study is for adults with a blocked radial artery who need a heart procedure like angiography or angioplasty. Doctors will use the ulnar artery in the same wrist instead. The goal is to see if this approach is safe and how it affects hand strength, feeling, and daily use. Researchers will follow 127 participants to track complications and hand function over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this study could provide evidence that using the ulnar artery is a safe alternative for heart procedures when the radial artery is blocked, improving patient care.
What could go wrong
This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test a new therapy. The results may not apply to all patients or settings.
