Could a simple wound wash ease pain after wrist surgery?
NCT ID NCT06384456
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether putting tranexamic acid (a medicine that helps blood clot) into the surgical wound before closing it can reduce pain and the need for painkillers after wrist fracture surgery. About 90 adults having surgery for a broken wrist will be randomly assigned to receive either the medicine or a placebo (salt water). The main goal is to see if the medicine leads to less pain in the first day after surgery.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- tranexamic acid (TXA) applied into the surgical wound
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a simple, low-cost way to reduce pain and opioid use after wrist fracture surgery.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase trial (90 people) testing a single dose. The effect on pain may be small or no different from placebo, and results may not apply to other surgeries.
