Knee surgery showdown: is the tourniquet outdated?
NCT ID NCT07506434
First seen Apr 13, 2026 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looks at whether using a tourniquet during total knee replacement is necessary. A tourniquet is a tight band that stops blood flow to reduce bleeding during surgery, but it may cause side effects. Researchers will compare blood loss, pain, and recovery in 30 adults with knee osteoarthritis who are randomly assigned to have surgery with or without a tourniquet. The goal is to see if skipping the tourniquet works just as well.
