Fizzing powder may restore skin color in vitiligo

NCT ID NCT05536856

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new effervescent (fizzing) powder containing 5-fluorouracil to treat vitiligo, a condition that causes white patches on the skin. Sixty people with stable vitiligo will apply either the new fizzing powder or plain 5-fluorouracil powder to their patches. The goal is to see if the fizzing version helps restore skin color better.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

5-fluorouracil effervescent powder

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a more effective topical treatment for vitiligo repigmentation.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 60 people. The improvement may be modest or not last, and 5-fluorouracil can cause skin irritation.
