Lamp vs laser: which light works best for vitiligo?

NCT ID NCT00696358

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compared two types of ultraviolet light treatments—an excimer lamp and an excimer laser—for repigmenting white patches caused by vitiligo. Adults with at least two matching patches of vitiligo received both treatments on different patches twice a week for 12 weeks. The goal was to see which device produces better color return, and to check how safe and tolerable each is.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

308nm excimer lamp and 308nm excimer laser

What this could lead to

If one device works better, it could offer a more effective or accessible option for repigmenting vitiligo patches.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial comparing two similar light devices. The difference may be small, and results may not apply to all vitiligo types or severities.
