First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether adding tongue scraping to standard gum disease treatment can improve bad breath. Researchers will measure breath odor and sulfur compounds to see if the tongue scraper makes a difference.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost addition to gum disease treatment that helps reduce bad breath.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 39 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Tongue scraping is generally safe but may cause gagging or irritation.
