New drug combo aims to stop liver cancer in its tracks
NCT ID NCT05366829
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing whether adding the immunotherapy drug tislelizumab after standard liver-directed treatments (like radiation) can help control inoperable liver cancer. About 35 adults with hepatocellular carcinoma who have not had systemic therapy will receive tislelizumab to boost the immune system's response. The study will check for side effects and measure how long the cancer stays under control.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Tislelizumab (a drug that helps the immune system fight cancer)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a new treatment option for people with inoperable liver cancer, potentially improving how long they live without the cancer growing.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 35 participants. The drug may cause serious side effects, and it is not yet known if it will improve outcomes compared to standard care.
