Liver Procedure's hidden benefit: fighting muscle wasting?
NCT ID NCT06794853
Summary
This study aims to understand how a standard liver procedure (TIPS) might help improve severe muscle loss (sarcopenia) in people with advanced liver cirrhosis. Researchers will follow 132 patients after their TIPS surgery, measuring a specific protein (FGF21) in their blood and tracking changes in their muscle mass and strength over a year. The goal is to learn the biological mechanism behind this potential benefit to better guide future patient care.
