New shot could help control rare lung disease

NCT ID NCT07601295

First seen May 29, 2026 · Last updated Jun 22, 2026 · Updated 4 times

Summary

This phase 2 trial tests whether adding tiprelestat (elafin) to standard care improves outcomes for people with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH), a serious lung condition. About 90 adults will receive either a daily injection of tiprelestat or a placebo for 168 days. The main goal is to see if the drug lowers pulmonary vascular resistance, a key measure of disease severity.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

tiprelestat (also known as elafin)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a new add-on treatment to better control pulmonary arterial hypertension and improve heart function.

What could go wrong

This is an early phase 2 trial with only 90 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The drug is injected daily, which may be inconvenient, and side effects are still being studied.
