Scientists probe mysterious loss of nose immune cells in aging

NCT ID NCT06039527

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This observational study aims to understand why older adults lose certain immune cells (T cells) from their nasal passages, which may make them more prone to respiratory infections. Researchers will compare young adults (18-30), healthy older adults (65+), and frail older adults (65+) by taking nasal samples and blood tests. The goal is to uncover the mechanisms behind this cell loss and its link to infection risk, but this study does not test any treatment or intervention.
