Can eating only at certain times boost health in older adults?

NCT ID NCT05482711

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study looked at whether limiting when you eat (time-restricted eating) can improve how the body uses fuel and regulates daily rhythms in overweight adults aged 65 and older. Fifteen participants followed a set eating and fasting schedule for 8 weeks while researchers tracked changes in blood sugar, gene activity, and sleep patterns using wearable devices. The goal was to develop better ways to measure these health markers, not to prove a treatment works.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Time-restricted eating (behavioral intervention)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a simple dietary pattern to improve metabolic and circadian health in older adults.

What could go wrong

This is a very small, early-phase study with only 15 participants. Results may not apply to the general population, and the intervention is purely behavioral with no control group.
