Scar-Free thyroid surgery could match traditional open surgery

NCT ID NCT07654322

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two surgical approaches for unilateral thyroid cancer: a newer, scar-free endoscopic technique through the armpit versus standard open neck surgery. Researchers will track complications, recovery time, and patient satisfaction in 400 adults aged 18-70 with early-stage papillary thyroid cancer. The goal is to see if the less visible approach is as safe and effective as the traditional method.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

surgery

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that a scar-free, minimally invasive surgery is as safe and effective as traditional open surgery for thyroid cancer, offering better cosmetic outcomes.

What could go wrong

This is an observational comparison, not a randomized trial, so results may be influenced by patient choice. Long-term outcomes like cancer recurrence are still being tracked.
