Laser showdown: which prostate surgery bleeds less?
NCT ID NCT07187180
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study compares two types of lasers used in prostate surgery for men with enlarged prostates (BPH). The goal is to see which laser causes less bleeding and takes less time during the operation. Fifty men who have not had prior prostate surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either a holmium or a pulsed thulium laser procedure.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
laser (holmium or pulsed thulium)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that one laser type reduces bleeding or shortens surgery time for BPH treatment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 50 men, so results may not apply to everyone. The lasers are already used in practice, so no major breakthrough is expected.
