New prostate implant aims to ease bathroom struggles without pills
NCT ID NCT05186740
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests a device called the ProVee Urethral Expander, which is placed in the prostate to open the urinary channel and relieve symptoms of an enlarged prostate. About 221 men with moderate to severe symptoms are enrolled, and the device is compared to a sham procedure. The goal is to see if it safely improves urinary flow and reduces symptoms like frequent or difficult urination.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
ProVee Urethral Expander System (a device placed in the prostate to open the urinary channel)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new, less invasive option for men with enlarged prostate to urinate more easily without daily medication.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage device study with no long-term data yet. The sham comparison may show only modest benefit, and some men may need a catheter afterward.
