Magnetic pulses to the brain may ease autism symptoms

NCT ID NCT07579494

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a non-invasive brain stimulation technique called theta burst stimulation (TBS) can improve core symptoms of autism, such as social difficulties and repetitive behaviors. Researchers will apply TBS to a specific brain area (right inferior frontal gyrus) in 60 participants aged 8 to 30 with autism. The study measures changes in social responsiveness, repetitive behaviors, and emotional regulation using questionnaires and brain scans.

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a non-drug treatment to help reduce core autism symptoms like social difficulties and repetitive behaviors.

What could go wrong

This is an early, small study (60 people) testing a new brain stimulation target. It may not produce clear benefits, and effects could vary widely between individuals.
