New ultrasound device could replace MRI for liver fat measurement
NCT ID NCT07321925
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study is testing a new Thermoacoustic Enhanced Ultrasound device to measure fat in the liver. Researchers will compare the device's readings to the gold-standard MRI measurement in 49 adults with fatty liver disease. The goal is to develop a more accessible and affordable tool for assessing liver fat, which is a key indicator of metabolic health.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Thermoacoustic Enhanced Ultrasound device
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a cheaper, more accessible way to measure liver fat without an MRI, helping diagnose fatty liver disease earlier.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study with only 49 participants. The new device may not match MRI accuracy, and results may not apply to everyone.
