Texting parents could save teens after suicide scare
NCT ID NCT06660199
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tests whether sending daily text messages to parents of teens who visited the ER for suicide risk can help prevent future suicide attempts and reduce parental stress. About 420 parent-teen pairs will take part, with parents receiving either supportive texts or standard care for six weeks. The goal is to see if this simple, low-cost approach can improve safety and well-being.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
text-based behavioral intervention
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide a simple, low-cost way to support families and reduce suicide risk in teens after an emergency visit.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively early-stage study with 420 participants, and the intervention is just text messages—it may not be enough to prevent suicidal behavior. Results may not apply to all families.
