Can a simple TENS device loosen stiff muscles in stroke survivors?

NCT ID NCT07669649

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a mild electrical stimulation device (TENS) can reduce spasticity—stiff, tight muscles—in adults who had a stroke at least six months ago. Only 4 people will take part, and they will receive TENS for 30 minutes while researchers measure muscle responses. The goal is to see if this simple, non-invasive approach can offer temporary relief.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, drug-free way to temporarily ease muscle stiffness after a stroke.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, tiny study with only 4 people. It only looks at short-term effects, so any benefit may be small or not last.
