Can a smart band replace physical therapy after shoulder surgery?
NCT ID NCT07392502
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study compares a telerehabilitation system called Band Connect to standard in-person physical therapy for people recovering from rotator cuff repair surgery. The Band Connect uses smart handles and resistance bands that connect to a phone app to guide exercises and track progress. Researchers will enroll 68 adults and measure shoulder pain and function over time to see if the at-home approach works as well as traditional therapy.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Band Connect device (smart handles and resistance bands with a phone app)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a convenient, at-home alternative to in-person physical therapy after shoulder surgery, potentially saving time and travel.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 68 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device relies on patient compliance and internet access, and it may not be as effective as supervised therapy for all patients.
