App may let some hypertension patients skip doctor visits

NCT ID NCT06524180

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a telemedicine system (HealthCap app) can keep blood pressure under control as well as regular face-to-face doctor visits in people with stable hypertension. About 364 participants will either use the app for remote monitoring and automatic medication refills, or continue standard in-person checkups every 16-18 weeks. The main goal is to see if blood pressure readings are similar between the two groups after 12 months.

What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that telemedicine is a safe and cost-effective alternative to in-person doctor visits for managing stable hypertension.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial (364 participants) and only includes people whose blood pressure is already well-controlled. The results may not apply to those with uncontrolled hypertension or other health issues.
