First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether giving buprenorphine (a medication for opioid addiction) through telemedicine works as well as in-person care. Fifty adults with opioid use disorder will be randomly assigned to either remote or in-person treatment. The main goal is to see how long people stay in treatment before dropping out.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
buprenorphine (sublingual)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that telemedicine is a safe and effective way to deliver buprenorphine treatment, making it easier for people with opioid use disorder to get help.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study with only 50 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Telemedicine may not work as well for those with severe addiction or unstable living situations.
