No more reading glasses? early trial tests Light-Based corneal treatment
NCT ID NCT07208604
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This early-stage trial tests a non-invasive device that uses controlled UV light to reshape the cornea, potentially reducing the need for reading glasses in people with presbyopia. The study will enroll 25 adults aged 40 to 65 with healthy corneas. The main goal is to see if the treatment can safely and accurately correct refractive error within a small range of the target.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Quantitative refractive crosslinking (non-invasive UV light device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could offer a non-surgical, one-time procedure to reduce or eliminate the need for reading glasses in people with presbyopia.
What could go wrong
This is a very early Phase I trial with only 25 participants, so safety and effectiveness are not yet proven. The procedure may not work for everyone, and there are risks like infection or corneal healing problems.
