Ancient meets modern: acupuncture and herbs aim to speed gut recovery after surgery

NCT ID NCT07081802

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether adding transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) and traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) to standard recovery care helps the gut work normally sooner after major abdominal surgery. About 148 adults having pancreas or colorectal surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either standard care or standard care plus TEAS and TCM. The main goals are to see how quickly patients pass gas and have a bowel movement after surgery.
