First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study looks at whether adding a Whole Health Coach to standard pain management teams helps veterans with chronic pain feel better and use opioids more safely. About 432 veterans will work with a coach to set personal health goals and learn self-management strategies. The main goal is to see if this approach reduces pain-related interference and improves opioid safety over six months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only โ not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Whole Health Coaching (a behavioral intervention that helps patients set personal health goals and use self-management strategies for pain)
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could provide a better way to manage chronic pain in veterans, reducing pain interference and improving safe opioid use.
- What could go wrong
- This is a relatively early-stage study (no phase) with 432 participants, so results may not apply to all veterans. The coaching requires active participation, and benefits may vary.
