Escape rooms vs. online classes: which best trains new doctors?
NCT ID NCT07176442
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested three different ways to teach new medical interns about diabetic ketoacidosis: an online course, a high-tech simulation with a mannequin, and a puzzle-based escape game. Fifty-one interns were randomly assigned to one of the three methods. Their knowledge was tested before, right after, and four weeks later to see which approach worked best and was most motivating.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
educational interventions (MOOC, simulation, escape game)
What this could lead to
If this trial succeeds, it could point toward the best way to train new medical interns, improving their knowledge and patient care.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center study with only 51 participants, so results may not apply to all hospitals or training settings. It measures short-term knowledge, not real-world performance.
