First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a gentle brain stimulation technique called tDCS can improve mood, thinking, and eating habits in people with anorexia nervosa. Forty participants aged 10-30 will receive either real or sham stimulation twice daily for three weeks. The goal is to see if this safe, non-invasive approach can reduce depression and help with nutritional recovery.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a non-invasive brain stimulation treatment to help reduce depression and improve eating behaviors in anorexia nervosa.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 40 participants. The treatment is short (3 weeks), and results may not last or apply to everyone. tDCS is generally safe but may cause mild scalp discomfort.
