New TB skin test could improve diagnosis accuracy
NCT ID NCT07152639
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This Phase 3 trial is testing a new skin test called EEC to see how well it detects tuberculosis (TB) infection in people aged 3 and older. The study will compare EEC to existing tests like EC, TB-PPD, and IGRA in about 1,784 participants, including TB patients, healthy people, and those with other lung diseases. The goal is to find out if EEC is more accurate and safe for diagnosing TB.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
recombinant Mycobacterium tuberculosis fusion protein (EEC)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could provide a more accurate and convenient skin test for tuberculosis infection, helping doctors diagnose TB faster and more reliably.
What could go wrong
This is a Phase 3 trial, but the test is still experimental. It may not prove more accurate than existing tests, and results may vary across different age groups or populations.
