One-Time radiation during lumpectomy may cut breast cancer recurrence

NCT ID NCT01570998

First seen Mar 22, 2026 · Last updated Apr 28, 2026 · Updated 3 times

Summary

This study looks at giving a single dose of radiation directly to the area where a breast tumor was removed, right after surgery while the patient is still in the operating room. The goal is to see if this approach works as well as standard radiation therapy and causes fewer side effects. About 1,259 adults with early-stage breast cancer (Stage IA or IIA) took part. Researchers track how many patients have a local recurrence, side effects like infection or delayed healing, and overall survival.
