Generic psoriasis cream could offer cheaper alternative to VTAMA®
NCT ID NCT06742957
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether a generic tapinarof cream works as well as the brand-name VTAMA® cream for adults with plaque psoriasis. 560 participants used either the generic cream, the brand-name cream, or a placebo for 12 weeks. The goal was to see if the generic version is equally safe and effective at clearing or nearly clearing psoriasis patches.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
tapinarof cream 1%
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that a generic version of tapinarof cream is as safe and effective as the brand-name VTAMA®, potentially offering a lower-cost treatment option for plaque psoriasis.
What could go wrong
This is a completed Phase 3 trial, but results are not yet published. Even if the generic works similarly, it may not work for everyone, and side effects like skin irritation are possible.
