Ancient needles and herbs take on psoriasis in new trial

NCT ID NCT07410793

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study compares two treatments for mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis: acupuncture combined with a Chinese herbal cream versus acupuncture combined with a standard medicated cream (calcipotriol). About 28 adults with psoriasis on skin, scalp, or nails will be enrolled. Researchers will measure how well the skin clears and how much quality of life improves.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
acupuncture and Chinese herbal cream (Sophora flavescens, Cnidium monnieri, Prunus mume, Dictamnus dasycarpus, Rheum palmatum)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a natural, low-side-effect option to control mild-to-moderate plaque psoriasis.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with only 28 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The herbal cream's effectiveness and safety are not yet proven.
