Ultrasound vs. Surgeon's touch: which pain block works best?

NCT ID NCT06876155

First seen Jun 27, 2026 ยท Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested two methods of giving a TAP block, a pain-numbing injection for the belly wall, after laparoscopic surgery. One method used ultrasound guidance by an anesthesiologist; the other used surgical landmarks during the operation. The goal was to see if they provide similar pain relief and need for painkillers in the first 24 hours after surgery. 64 adults having elective laparoscopic colorectal, gallbladder, or stomach surgery took part.
