Could a simple injection after C-Section cut painkiller use?

NCT ID NCT06324942

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This trial tests whether a surgeon-given nerve block (TAP block) can improve pain control after a cesarean section. The block uses a long-acting numbing medicine injected into the abdominal wall. Researchers want to see if it reduces the need for narcotics, helps women move sooner, and shortens hospital stays. About 80 women having planned C-sections will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

bupivacaine (TAP block)

What this could lead to

If effective, this simple nerve block could become a standard part of C-sections, reducing the need for strong painkillers and speeding recovery.

What could go wrong

This is a small, single-center trial, so results may not apply to all hospitals. The block may not provide meaningful pain relief for everyone.
